Does anyone remember a Comedian who lived at Showfeild during the war.He was I beleive a member of ENSA .They went around entertaining the troops. His father was an Overlooker in the spining Dept at T.&.M.aistows Mill I am not sure if he went under the name of Nosmo King or not. His fathers name was Willi Firth Angler Yes, apparently the double doors to an establishment had it written on them, and when the doors were opened separately they had 'No smo' on one door and 'king' on the other. I remember this from a TV interview long ago with Les Dawson who had Nosmo King as one of his comedic influences.

Good story and it illustrates just how different people hear different stories. I well remember Nosmo King on the radio when I was a lad, but my memory is that he was looking for a suitable stage name and on a train one day he noticed the sign had a letter missing--No sm king, and it just came to him that it could be a good name for him. There are probably other versions but that's the one I heard. Cheers.

I wouldn't mind betting that Nosmo had several versions of the story of how he got his stage name... Some funnier than others. ;D
