Just wanted to remind everyone about the Riddlesden War Memorial Institute who are having an open day this Sunday 7th February 2010, when they will display information about the men on the memorial and hope to encourage visitors to bring more information in for the archives.
It's the 90th Anniversary of the building by the way.
KDLHS are running a display as is the Men of Worth project and I think Ian Dewhirst is giving a talk too. Kicks off at 11.00 am on Sunday, I'm not sure about close of play though. I'll be there from 10.00 am - ish setting up the Men of Worth Display. Refreshments will be available but you'll have to make your own arrangements for lunch. There's a chippy just down the road I think...
All are most welcome!!! Please come along and say hello!

Well I don't know about anyone else, but I had a good time. The presentations were great - apart from one lady who seemed to be obsessed with clicking a tape recorder on and off??? Anyway, I had a few few bites of interest during the day but just as I was packing up a lady turned up with an old album which must have about twenty or thirty pctures of WW1 soldiers in it (Possibly Haworth lads). I started to quickly photograph them and she said "Would it be easier if you took it home with you and gave it back to me later?" Would it ever! So I have here a very interesting album of pictures, quite a lot of which are just family album pics from around the Great War period. Including two of the inauguration of the Haworth WW1 memorial. She said I could do what I wanted with the copies I took of them, but wanted the originals to go back to the families wherever possible. So there will be a load going on to our Photobucket account sometime soon. So yes, if asked, I'd say it was a good day for history. Anyone else want to share experiences of the day? Apart from comments about 'Caribbean' bottoms of course...

Yes Andy What a brilliant day, think we were kept fairly busy....I was all chatted out when I got home..... I also had lots of interesting people, who loaned me books, and offered loans of other items. I loved Ian's talk, sitting in the front row made it extra special......apart from the "funny lady" with that d**ned tape recorder.........who was one minute stood at the piano then next minute sprawled across the floor. It would have quite funny had it not been so sad......... I have uploaded all my pictures to Facebook, on the Keighley & District Local History page, will add them to photobucket....Pat's pix are also on Facebook, will get her to upload hers as well. A super day, thanks to all concerned especially Joyce Proctor who arranged the day. Jan
