As part of my family history research I'm trying to identify the local newspaper in the early 1920's. This is hopefully to discover coverage of some local boys drowning. I'm planning to visit soon so this is a little forward planning. Thanks for the prompt reply and the info about the newspapers.
The basic story is that my dad, Allan, was named after a boy, Richard Allan Derrick, who drowned I thought in or around Keighley. However today I found a death which I think is him registered in Lancaster so maybe he was on holiday. I'll send for the certificate to make sure its him then maybe we could put something together for the forum. I'm thinking it may have made the local paper or I suppose even better would be a contact with a 'Derrick' descendant. Anyway one step at a time !
Michael has since discovered the following information.
I've received his death certificate which shows he was drowned in Morecambe Bay after a boat capsized. It happened on or around 2nd August 1923 so he must have been on holiday etc. I'm waiting for a reply from Morecambe reference library about the event featuring in the local paper. So I'm hoping that will bear fruit. I think I sent you his family details etc so if you think it worth posting on your forum please do. There may be a member of the 'Derrick' family with some recollections etc.
