All from the Oxenhope village calendar from 1992 (or something like that!) although I think there's a mill missing maybe from the top picture. There was one where Jew Lane meets Denholme Road and it burnt down - it was next to the burial site on the left side of the road as you go up to the Lamb. I also remember some kind of stables there as well behind the mill. Do yu remember that rope swing across the beck (just a bit further down from the waterfall) when the pond was like a really big pond and we had the 'air raids' to play in?!

Gemma, The mill was called Perseverance Mill and burned down in 1990. There are some good pictures and a story about it, together with all the information about the burial ground in a book called " The Lowertown Old Burial Ground and Life in Oxenhope 1807-1908" I think the book is in Keighley Library, or else you can get it by contacting the trustees on: OOBTG@lowerisle.co.uk

I remember the day quite well - the fire destroyed much of the building that the rest had to be pulled down as it would have collapsed at any time and it was right next to the main road so could have been quite dangerous.
I do have some more pictures of Oxenhope which I took for a school project and I managed to get some old pics to compare the past and present (although the present was about 15 years ago now) - I'll have to see if I can find them and scan them. It's surprising how little had changed on them.

Do any of you possess a picture of the Martins Bank sub branch in Oxenhope? I think the address was Lowertown. It was almost alongside the main bus stop. I used to run the sub branch (Wed & Fri mornings) and I am involved in a new archive web site www.martinsbank.co.uk and would love to have a picture of the branch to add to the archive. (Similarly any pictures of the other sub branches at Haworth & Denholme would make my day!)

I don't recall ever seeing a Martin's Bank in Oxenhope but if we're talking about the same place there was a Barclay's Bank when I moved there (never saw it open though!) It was opposite Lowertown Mill gates and has since been converted into a residential property...as has the mill

Keighlian, Thanks for the Martins bank site and photographs of 2 of my school friends from KBGS (1950-1955) Arnold Boddy and Julian Taylor As an articled clerk 1955 I worked at Bottomley and Smith, Incorporated Accountants (The Office was above the old Halifax Building Society building on the corner of Cavendish Street and Lawkholme Crescent) One of the audits was Bancroft's Mill at Oxenhope where I made the acquaintance of Tony Bancroft (grandson of the owner) with whom I later played Rugby at the Keighlian's Rugby Club. It appeared to be that Tony's job at the mill was building and repairing CLASSIC CARS !!

I remember Bottomley & Smith very well as customers of Martins Bank. I suspect from your User Name I may well have been in Form1b with you in 1950 as I am the same JT to whom you refer. I stayed with Martins, then Barclays from the 1970 merger, working around Yorkshire, Cornwal & Devon. You will see me on the Martins site under 'Mobile branches and Leeds District (District Office) as well as under Keighley. I've changed a bit since then! Friends from the Keighley Parish Church Youth Fellowship in the late 50's early 60's are having their trienniel reunion in April and I will be seeing Arnold Boddy there.
