I have an ancestor, one Frederick Cheshire, who, although born in Bucks, and died in Cheltenham, was a professional musician for a number of years. I have tracked him down in the 1871 census in Keighley. He was a lodger in Adelaide St. Does this still exist? Other lodgers on that night were an Irish-born musician and a French-born gymnast.Do you have any knowledge of what music-halls or theatres would have accommodated them at this time? Thanks . Sue Cheshire.

This would have been the Hippodrome which closed in the 60's. If it were still there it would overlook the Bus Station. There are photos of it on the main KHS website.
Later edit - in the post cards section it can just be seen in the middle one on the bottom line. There may be a better one somewhere. Later again Ah Yes, the 'Now and Then' section second line , second photo (though I cant get the thumbnail to expand for some reason)

Hello Sue, I'm afraid Adelaide Street is no more, but the lodging house was certainly there as early as 1851. My 4xgreat grandfather died there in February of that year. His death was registered by the Irish-born proprietor, Mary Ann Dewhirst who ran the house assisted by her daughter, also Mary Ann, who had been born in Keighley.
