I think we should just acknowledge the passing away yesterday of Mollie (real name Mary) Sugden. She was born in Keighley in 1922, and was a school mate of my late mother at Holycroft, who always said she had a wicked sense of humour even as a child. One of the lads around at that time was Sam Riley , who later became Head of Physics at KBGS. Mollie became engaged to him, but it didnt last, Mollie went to study Drama at the Guildhall School in London, and Sam to Oxford to read Physics. Mollie later met (at Swansea rep in 1956) and married actor William Moore, with whom she had twin boys. It was about this time she became known on the radio, taking the part of Jimmy Clitheroes mother in 'The Clitheroe Kid'. She became even better known through television in The Liver Birds, and then of course her masterpiece 'Are You Being Served' R.I.P Mollie

Ah yes the lovely Mollie Sugden. This is how I would like to remember her, as 'Mrs (Betty) Slocombe':

Thank you for that fsharpminor - yes she was a lovely lady, a wonderful character actress and a fantastically funny lady - can I ever forget her rendering the imortal lines about her "p u s s y " so innocent................and yet so hilarious. RIP Mollie xxx Jan
