Written by Lee-Anne Blakey on May. 10, 2006 Hello, Has anyone ever heard of the company from the early 1900's called "Blakey's Shoe Protectors, Ltd" (i think it is now Penine Castings) - supposedly, my great grandfather, John Blakey, started it and then lost it to "liquor" - any info would be great. Lee-Anne Blakey - Massachusetts, USA my grandfather (edgar blakey) (John Blakey's son) and his brother percy blakey) came from keighley and have another brother charles and two sisters elizabeth and anne.

Written by Corinne Lawrie on Mar. 20, 2007 My ancestor John Blakey was born in Keighley in 1841. He discovered and manufactured Blakeys Boot Protectors. His father Jonas Blakey, a Cordwainer, was born in 1807 in Keighley. I'm desperate for someone to do a look up for me on Jonas' birth as I can find no traces on any on line parish registers, (although there seems to be info on dozens of other Blakeys). Jonas' wife Elizabeth was born to Thomas Waterhouse and Ann Fieldhouse in 1807 (also Keighley) If there are any ancestors out there I would love to hear from you. Thanks Corinne
