Please can someone confirm that Mansion House is now Victoria Hall. Is anyone aware of any literature regarding the history of this house? Blimey - i have been to this hall many times, and never ever dreamt that it could have featured in my family history. Speechless.

Judith - I guess you are referring to my post last night. Well on my 1913 map Victoria Hall is shown as 'Mansion House'. Also, to quote the Keighley News book titled 'Images of Keighley', under a photograph of the house: 'Eastwood House, built in 1819 by worsted manufacturer William Sugden of Fleece Mill. Part of its extensive parkland disappeared under housing developments, but the rest was bought by public subscription and opened as Victoria Park in 1893. The house itself - better known as the Mansion House - housed Keighley's Borough Museum from 1899 until its transfer to Cliffe Castle in 1959. Famous roots eh - wish I could say the same. Regards - Mike.

Hi Mike - thank you. I'm just starting to discover how 'well to do' my family were!!! Always thought they were just weavers and factory workers, didn't realise until recently they were mill owners (although Haggas is one of my family names) - your post re Eastwood House was quite a revelation.
