Allan and his father Alexander Smith have a wonderful archive of old pictures. I will be adding a section to the web site with all his fantastic long gone pictures.................these will be a wonderful addition to the site. |

£1.785 per gallon for 4 star petrol. That works out at 39 pence per litre.
Going on today's price per litre of approximately £1.00 it would work out at around £4.54 per gallon.
Really makes you sick doesn't it?

At the time when I took this pic (December 1983), and petrol was 39p a litre, East Parade chippy was selling fish at 38p, chips 24p to take out, and you could go inside, sit down and be waited on and have fish & chips, tea, bread and butter for £1-05p. I sent Jan a photo of the price list in the window. Come on Jan, let everybody have a look at it!! Allan.  |
