Mention of the name Summerscales in the 'Darling' thread reminded me of the Summerscales Music Festival held every year at the Mechanics. I'm not sure when it ended, but I was entered regularly at different ages by my piano teacher Mary Binns. I also remember our church choir (Lund Park Methodists) winning a choir class on more than one occasion. I have fond memories of Miss Binns, who taught me from before my 6th birthday right through to my ALCM diploma at age 16. The other well known music teacher was of course Jack Smith who also conducted the Keighley Vocal Union, also frequent prize winners at festivals. Anyone else have memories of the 'Summerscales' or stories of music lessons ? I also recall Keighey Music Club, which I was allowed to join at age 13 (1960) and concerts held at the Temperance Hall (now a pub!), some by Keighley Orchestral Society.
