I wonder if there is a record of drownings in the River Aire in or near Keighley? My particular interest is in the drowning of Frank Smith on 8 Jun 1907 - "found drowned without any mark of violence on his body" I guess I need to look through Keighley News inquest reports in the library next time I visit Yorkshire but if anyone knows of other records that'd be great thanks Jill

Hi Jill
Many of the burial records for the various cemeteries in the area record that the deceased was "found drowned - in the River Aire/Leeds Liverpool canal etc."
I have a burial record of a Frank Smith aged 42 on 13 April 1907 - but I have him buried before you have him drowning. Is your date correct? could it be the same person?
West Yorkshire Archives or Bradford Archives may hold inquest reports. It is worth a try.
Best Wishes Malcolm

Hi Jill
Ok - mine was a different one. I will probably come across yours as I am currently transcribing the St Mary's Records. Regretably I have not recorded the cause of death on any of my records, which with hindsight is probably a pity, as I could have given you all of those records which involved accidents/drownings/murder/suicide etc. If I get chance to check for you in the KN in the library I will let you know.
Regards Malcolm
