Hi - I'm looking for people with lots of knowledge about Keighley's energy past to help with the town's energy future. Not too long ago Keighley folks made use of local water, wood and coal to power industry and homes; the town generated its own electricity and probably town (coal) gas. I'm interested to find out how good these systems and find answers to questions about how and where we will get our power from in a future that will not have abundant cheap fossil fuels.

There were pits (literally) throughout this area where near-surface coal was dug out in a low-tech fashion. There are old survey maps to be seen which show their location. It is surprising where they were.
