I am researching my family who lived in the Westgate area of the pinfold during the 1880s. As this area was demolished in the 1930s I was wondering if anyone has any stories about the pinfold area , either because the information has been passed down or you have researched the facts i was also wondering if anyone has any photos or maps of the area ? if so could you please email me on lewisparker1995@aol.com
Thanks Lewis Parker Aged 13

When we were children, my mother (1913-82) used to use the word "pinfold" to chastise us if we had made the house untidy - with such expressions "Where do you think we live - pinfold?" I never understood it any more than drawing inferences that it was a pretty dire place. Later I came to understood it to be the levelled area near the bottom of West Lane close to the Upper Green Congregational church.

Hi Lewis - Keighley Library will have some pictures/photos of Pinfold/ Barracks/Westgate area & maps - you will be able to see us on Saturday 18th October 2008 - 10:00 till about 16:00 (got to plug it) when Local Historians and Family Historians will be helping at an open day arranged by the Library. Upstairs in the 'Local Studies Section'.
There are some pictures in Ian Dewhirst's books about Keighley.
I am sure that Jan will have some as well - she always has pictures of many area's of town.
