On reading the Keighley News letters today, I am dismayed to read that books have been disappearing from our Reference Library.
Antiquarian Booksellers have been given, the freedom to look through our prized literature, and take it away it would appear.
I wonder if anyone else has any information on this?
I wonder if a stock check was made of all the old volumes in our library and just what will be returned?
New stock is not the answer, we want the old Keighley volumes which are so necessary for our interests.
Can you add any further information?

This is absolutely scandalous. How can it be allowed to happen ? I will write to the KN, although it won't stop the library selling off what are essentially priceless items.

From the Keighley News Library books thrown into skips By Miran Rahman A Keighley Town Councillor has demanded an explanation from Bradford Council's library service, after saying she witnessed books and pamphlets from Keighley's Reference library being chucked into skips.
Cllr Siobhan Alderson said one of her neighbours alerted her to the clear-out on December 11. She said when she made it to the library she was shocked to see boxes which had once contained items from the Brigg family collection, lying empty.
The collection of books, maps and pamphlets was donated to the Carnegie Library by one of the town's most prominent families during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Cllr Alderson said among the materials thrown into skips were 40 volumes of the Jewish Chronicle, historical bound volumes of Punch magazine and an original 1830s John Brown Bible.
She said one librarian told her that Keighley people would now have to go to Bingley or Bradford to find documents which used to be kept in the Reference Library.
She added Bradford Council must provide an itemised list of the items disposed of, an idea of how much this material was worth and explain what criteria were used to decide what should be thrown out.

Yet when I tried to asking about copying a Cowling Church Register I was told "no" it belonged to the Library. One rule for one another rule for another. Keighley staff have never been as good as Bradford or Skipton and although they claim to be there to help I have found it not to be the case.
