We are trying to find the location of any old Mile stones in or around the town if anyone knows of any and can give us their location I would be extremely pleased as we need to record them and where possible paint in details also treat them and clean them. Thank you for your time in reading this L.W.B.

Hi Lewis
We have the Cliffe Castle one...................what Laurence is looking for is the ones at the side of the road, which maybe hidden, I believe some are on the canal/river bank.........BUT I am not the expert, perhaps Laurence will explain.
I think that the council wish to renovate all of these, so they stand out more.
So Lewis if you find any......let us know.

Fantastic Andy, a friend of mine found one broken in his fields at Scar Top, he is renovating that one himself.............. Is that the Keighley-Colne one which has one half missing? A cast iron milestone which would have been almost identical to the one at the top of Lidget in Oakworth? According to my information there were at least three made like this, the Lidget one being the only intact one. They all have hands pointing either left or right with a place name and the distance in miles. They look triangular when viewed from above. One that is gone altogether was at the top of Denby Hill in Oakworth and the 'half' one is about 200 metres past The Grouse Inn, on the Colne Road.

Hi Andy
The one I know about is a triangular metal one, which was damaged by workmen and thrown over into a field at Scar Top, a friend of mine has retrieved it and intends to - or has - repaired it to put back in the place it used to be. He said part of it is missing, and is getting the one side which is missing replaced.......I assume it was by the farm at Scar Top..........but will check with him

Oakworth Village Society would be very interested to hear about this particular milestone. If it is the same as the others, then it seems there are now four of a similar style which are aware of. This one is new to me anyway. Keighley Town Council had some money set aside for renovation of these milestones and I could certainly ask a Councillor about it tomorrow night at the Village Society meeting. They would all be grade two listed features. I know that for a fact as I have a list. On the heritage angle it seems that for a small cost we could conserve these items relatively easily. And given the distress concerning cemeteries we could do with a small victory. I reckon that the Keighley News would be interested too: "Keighley History Society Are Miles Ahead"Did you see what I did there? ;D
