Does anyone have any memories of, or information on, the 'Imperial Temperance Hotel - Restaurant and Cafe' on Cavendish Street?
I have a little booklet from the time of the first world war issued by Keighley Council, extolling the virtues of Keighley as a commercial and residential centre. The booklet contains various advertisements for local shops etc. but this one caught my eye.
The hotel was the at the top end of the existing row of shops with the glass canopies (currently occupied by Fletchers stationers and Ryderz clothing on the ground floor).
It would presumably have been the 'abstainers' alternative to the 'Cavendish Hotel' that stands a few feet way. It also traded as 'T. Tunnicliffe - high-class confectioner and caterer'. A four course dinner was available at lunchtimes for the grand sum of 1 shilling and six pence.
No idea how long it existed as a hotel/restaurant - any ideas anyone???
P.S. It's telephone number was a very memorable - 111.

I used to have my birthday parties as a young child at the Imperial and so did many of my friends. It was considered somewhat 'posh' to do this, however, we weren't 'posh' at all. I remember the room was very grand and the food was just fabulous.

Blimey I had no idea it was still going in the 60's.
I was beginning to think it must have closed a very long time ago as none of the usual posters seem to remember it.
Thanks a lot for that.
