Hi,
My husband's grandfather was station master at Ingrow Station Probably between the dates 1910 - 1940ish. His name was Richard Haygarth. I just wondered if anyone had any information or links that they are willing to share.
Thanks Westsmith

Well there were certainly Haygarths in Keighley in 50's and 60's A class mate of mine was John Haygarth, but he wasnt (as I was) an Ingrow Junior School lad. He would have been born 1946-7. Last I knew of him was about 6-7 years ago in Woodbridge area of Suffolk. You might be able to trace him and ascertain if hes a relative.

Hi, thanks for that. I knew that there were Haygarth's in Keighley. Since posting my original message I have discovered more or the family tree and I am trying to put all the jigsaw pieces together. Trouble is, the chrissy shopping needs doing as well. This lady is torn between retail therapy and family treeing- decisions, decisions.!!

I went to Ingrow School in about 54 and seem to remem ber someone called Haysgarth.Did he live down Grafton Road at Ingrow.Miss Ducket was Headmistress and ther were teachers called Miss Barnes,Miss Nichols,Mr Prothero in the juniors,I think.I could probably think of a lot more names if I put my mind to it.At that time my name was Mary Farrar and I was born in 1949.

Well I was at Ingrow Juniors from 1954-58. But the John Haygarth I knew at KBGS was not an Ingrow lad he was from another part of own (Riddlesden I think). Your memory fails you a little, the headmistress was Mary Duckney (who wielded a slipper if you misbehaved) the deputy head was John Silverwood. I also remember Mrs Barnes, and indeed I was taught by Mr Prothero in the 3rd year (remember the fish tank?), though I had Miss Law in the first year (class was held at Lund Park Methodist church, a few yards from our house), Mrs Harrison in the second year, and Miss Whitaker in the 4th year. Other teachers I remember were Miss Riley, who played the piano in assembly, and Mrs Seymour who had a son Stephen in our class. Sorry Ive gone 'off thread' now! Youre a little younger than me Mary, I was born March 1947, I guess if you wre born in 1949 you wouldnt have got to the Juniors until 1956 or so.

Hi,yes I realised I had got the name wrong.I wrote it before i went to bed and when I was thinking about I knew Ihad made a mistake not only Miss Duckney but had put a s in Haygarth. How could I forget her she frightened the life out of me, it was enough to put you school altogether. If we had them like her today it would be a lot better place don't you think.I started shool at Wesley place for a short while and then onto Ingrow infants.I had some nice friends there, one being a tiny girl no pun intended but her name was Barbara Little, she was killed by a lorry on the bridge going down by wasks it was very sad.

Hi Mary,
I knew Barbara Little, and her older sister Jennifer. Indeed they came to Lund Park Sunday School, and I think its was on a Sunday morning that Barbara had that horrific accident on the double bend over the railway in Woodhouse Rd as she walked to Sunday School for her home in Hainworth Wood Road. ( I guess about 1962 or 1963). I think I played the organ at the funeral service. I also later played the organ for, and was a guest Jennifers wedding to Mike Towers. They lived in Crossflatts for a while but Ive lost touch. I dated Mikes sister Shirley for a while whom I met at that wedding.
Sorry were off thread now. Perhaps I should have sent this as a private email. Anyway its nice to reminisce !

I am very sorry to hear this morning that my old school colleague John Haygarth to whom I referred in the second post on this thread, has just passed away after a sudden heart attack. Further details can be found on the forum section of www.kbgs.com under the thread 'Sad News'. He had moved from Woodbridge to Scarborough since I was last in contact with him.
