I was once told, that the way to tell a "Weavers Cottage" from a "Normal" cottage is to look at the upstairs windows. If there are 4 windows close together, this would indicate a "Weavers Cottage" as it would maximise the amount of light being let into the upstairs room, where the weaving loom would have been. Can anyone add further "Light!" (Pardon the pun!) on this subject?

If the cottage had been built to be used for that then yes, but many handloom weavers had to make do with what ever they had cottage wise. Looms would often be upstairs in order to maximise the available light.
