Did any of the mills and engineering factories in Keighley ever have an 'inhouse' magazine or newsletter? Did all mills and engineering factories in Keighley have a Christmas party for children of employees? Ditto have a 'sportsday' ... for employees and their children??? Ditto have a 'show' for vegetables etc - I know Prince Smith and Stells had an annual Sweet Pea Show. Ditto have fleet of charas to the seaside each year for a day out? Where to? What other organised events took place for all the employees??? Were there any other perks with a job. I know Mitchells down at Marley employed their own cook (and very good meals too) and heavily subsidised the dinners.

Good post harrier. My very first job, lasted about 3 months, was with the Denda Silk Mill at Haworth, in the Bridgehouse Mills complex. They had a perk I have never seen anywhere else and that is once a month a local barber came in and cut the hair of the men. There was a similar arrangement for women but I can't remember what that was.

Well Cyprane at Haworth and Keighley had both a Christmas event and a week day trip off in a coach with all paid.
Once the Keighley works started up we would go to either the coast or The Lakes. Llandudno via New Brighton one time, quite a round trip. I have a photograph of one of these trips out to The Lakes and can name most people on it. Dated around 1960.
I should have added that Airedale Springs, when there were three working factories, had evenings where staff had food and refreshments along with talks on manufacturing procedures etc. There were also working lunches with food and a chance to catch up with other managers. Winter time there were games arranged between the company and another from Rochdale, who were in the same group . Golf during the day and then an evening of cards, darts, dominoes and snooker. All this in the 1970s/1980s.

I certainly remember going to DSG Christmas parties in the Municipal Hall. Also a sort of DSG sports and Fun Day every summer in a field just beyond the Kly Cricket ground. Remember Dad in the inter-department Tug o' War . Finaly there was an Annual DSG Flower show, Dad often won the overall prize for most points, showing mainly dahlias, chrysanths, some vegetables. There was also a childrens class though I dont remember winning it !
