Hello Everyone,
My name is Garth Stone. I am new to Forum but not to Keighley. I was born there in 1958 and grew up in the 60's and 70's on Beeches Terrace by Victoria Park. During the 60's I went to Eastwood Infants and Parkwood Junior schools, and Swire Smith and Greenhead in the 70's. I played football for Oxenhope in the 70's (when they were struggling a bit) and rugby for Oakworth Wanderers for a couple of years. I travelled a bit in the late 70's and early 80's and having met my future wife in America I emigrated to San Diego in 1985.
This is a great site and I am having so much fun reminiscing while walking down memory lane, reading all the posts about people, places and things I remember from a wonderful childhood in and around Keighley.
Thanks for the site.
Garth

Hi Garth, welcome to the Forum. I also played for Oxenhope (minors) in the early 50s and still have a membership book with fixtures for that year! I have to say that you live in a lovely place. Of all the places I have seen on the West Coast, San Diego impressed me. If you get a bit nostalgic for Keighley occasionally, have a look at www.keighleyweb.co.uk/ Chris Kelly has a wonderful range of photos in alphabetical order. The forum has slowed up a lot but the photos are great. There is always the Keighley News online of course. Cheers. Bill

Hello Garth - I agree with Bill - take a look at the Keighley Web, the streets are in alphabetical order which means you can wander down any part of Keighley without getting out of your chair! I spend many Sunday afternoons wandering around my old home town, Chris has done a splendid job I can look at pictures of the Keighley I left behind over 50 years ago and the meories come flooding back. Regards...........
