Hi All I'm new to the site so I hope I've put this in the right place!
Can anyone shed any light on the history/location of The Queens Hotel Vaults? My grandfather Fred Ridsdale died there in Feb 1928 (age 36) according to his death cert. He was a professional pianist who grew up in Denby Dale, not sure of the Keighley connection yet, but he married a Keighley girl in 1916 shortly after being enlisted. Maybe he worked in the hotel?? Many Thanks, Jane

Fred Albert Ridsdale died after collapsing near the bar in the Queens Hotel Vaults on 5 February 1928. He was a professional pianist & had worked for several years at the Cosy Cinema in Keighley accompanying the silent films. I don't think he was pianist at the pub; he was having a drink there with his father when he collapsed
The Queens Hotel Vaults was the public bar of the hotel with a separate entrance at the corner of Dalton Lane. Professional musicians were always employed there right up to closure in 1958. The hotel was at the time of the death owned by the LMS Railway Company resident manageress was Miss Annie Thomas.
A full report including details of the inquest & attendees at the funeral is published in the Keighley News 11th February 1928. You can get a print out from the micro film copy at Keighley Local Studies Library.

A belated thank you all for the information, particularly on Fred's inquest which is really interesting & helps put some meat on the bones ( so to speak!).
