An Introduction to the History of Longlands
Free training session – Monday 21st January 2013, 10am for 10.30am
Board Room, Society of Dyers and Colourists
Perkin House, 82 Grattan Road, Bradford, BD1 2LU
Longlands is an area steeped in history. It is one of the most significant neighbourhoods in the story of how Bradford developed as both an industrial city and as a beacon for social improvements, yet it is seldom talked about today.
Hidden in the north west of the City Centre and often referred to as "Chain Street", this district boasts some fantastic amenities and examples of heritage including the Colour Experience, the Castle Hotel, the New Beehive Inn and the Irish Club. Even more hidden is the tale of how the area came to be and the battle to bring social justice and environmental improvement to it that raged on for decades.
This session is delivered by Jonathan Crewdson, Tutor with Neighbourhood Ventures, and explores the history of one of the least well known historic neighbourhoods in the heart of the City Centre. If you have any interest in local history or heritage then it is highly recommended.
The session is free and will take place in the Board Room of Perkin House on Grattan Road which is the headquarters of the Society of Dyers and Colourists and home to the Colour Experience. Please arrive at 10am for registration and refreshments with a 10.30am prompt start.
IMPORTANT! We need to know numbers for this event to organise the correct amount of refreshments and for organising the room layout. Please therefore book on by either sending an email to mail@neighbourhoodventures.org.uk or telephone or text Jonathan Crewdson using 07881 785636.
