Ian, as usual delivered a very interesting and entertaining talk last night, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

He never disappoints does he? He told me afterwards that it was a completely new subject for him and he'd never done a talk on his time at the library although he'd always alluded to his time there in his talks over the years. I thought he brought some really interesting information to the table and in particular the list of occupations that used the library. I've noted a couple of names I'm going to investigate further as he's activated my interest in them: Gordon Bottomley - apparently Keighley's most noted writer - never heard of him before. Alex F. Smith - stone sculptor and painter of the murals in the library, which when you take the time to look, are really very good indeed. I'm wondering if he did the carved details on the stonework on the building that houses 'Jean Junction' next to Oakworth Road roundabout. One of my favourite buildings in Keighley and I'm particularly looking forward to seeing the restoration work that's planned as part of the regeneration of North Street in the next couple of years.

Just for interest, one of my relatives was the main contractor when the library was built, Cavendish street was built and Leeshaw reservoir on Lee lane at Oxenhope.
