Does anybody have any information about the twinning of Keighley with Puteaux in 1905?
Puteaux was an industrial area with engineering links. It now hosts the Paris Open Tennis (I have a slide of the courts from 1905). Did Bethal Rhodes instigate the twinning? I suspect there was a business interest but have drawn a blank so far as Keighley was such a leader in many industries.
We, keighley, made a very generous donation to Puteaux after the Seine burst it's banks in 1907. Why?

I have just sent off an email to a mate in Keighley who may be able to help. He sent me some info on twinning in France some years ago so I will sort it out later. Cheers.

My mate in Keighley has replied and says he doesn't know anything about the twinning in 1905 with Puteaux. However, he does know about the twinning of Keighley with Poix-du-nord in northern France, sometime after WW1, and he visited there in the late 60s with the then Mayor of Keighley. A collection was held in Keighley at the time, after WW1, which raised about 3,000 pounds. (sorry, no pound signs on my keyboard), which funded the building of a Public Hall which they called Keighley Hall, and he has sent me a couple of pics which I will send to Andy to load on to here. He says that if we look on Wikipedia for Poix-du-Nord there is a Pathe news clip showing the Mayor of Keighley in 1922 at the opening of the Hall. The French pronounce it as "Kiggley". I think I have that all correct! Cheers.

Thank you so much Barcroftlad. I'm looking forward to viewing the pics and the Pathe news clip.
Do you know if there is public access to Keighley News archives or would I find further information from the library?
I have a stereo viewer with lots of glass slides taken on tours of the Far East in 1904 and later of the Americas. I'm trying to identify the people and places but I'm so easily side-tracked. I thought the Puteaux connection such a coincidence. I will try to upload a copy of the slide if possible although the 3D effect will be lost.
Many thanks again fysalt.
