We are all either supportive or ignoring all the festivities, but there is one thing many of us 'mature people' cannot forget.
What we were doing on the day of Her Majesty's Coronation.
My grandmother had just moved into one of the first new completed council houses in Green Way Crosshills and as a result of my uncle's injuries during the war, could afford a television.
All my uncles, aunties, cousins and many of the new neighbours were crowded into my Nana's sitting room. Several aunts were on 'tea duty', sandwich making, and 'toilet duty' - I was only 3, although getting in and out was quite a feat of organisation, because no-one wanted to miss anything.
Some of the tv footage that has been shown recently has been a bit like going into a museum of the fifties and sixties. I have lost count of how many times I have said "oh, I remember that".

Yes, Malcolm, I think a lot of us will remember where we saw the coronation.
As I said in another post we did not have electricity and went along to some good friends who had a TV to watch.
Strangely I do not remember too much of the day other than the fact that the living room was full of neighbors and friends.

Right Malcolm, not too many of us had TV in those days. I was in a group of friends which included a girl whose parents managed the Conservative club at Haworth, and we were all allowed to watch it in there. A big day in our lives. Cheers.

I got married in Coronation year - I was so busy planning my nuptuals I didn't take much notice of what was going off in London. However, I have thoroughly enjoyed watching films of the occasion on TV and am looking forward to watching the procession from the Abbey tomorrow - there isn't another country in the world who can put on a show like us.
