Hello - Sorry Im afraid I cannot recall any 'Woodview' on Parkwood. The houses on Parkwood were all streets, there were no semis or detached apart from Baldwins who owned the brass factory and the Fire Chief's house opposite the school Some of the houses on parkwood St., had a 'name' painted on the fanlight and this could be one of the houses where your mom lived. Parkwood bottom consisted of rows of houses with a single exit door and a small yard - the Big Yard had cellar dwellings which faced onto Harcourt St., and Barrett St., also had cellar dwellings onto Low Mill Lane. Parkwood Top was a bit more 'upmarket' with a front door and a back door into a small yard. I understand there is nothing there now, so it would be difficult for you to trace 'Woodview' - sorry I cannot be of help, but once again the name 'Parkwood' brings back such great memories of my young life...Kind regards................

Just looked at that on Google Street View which names it as 'Woodview House' but when you zoom into the sign above the door it says 'Parkwood House'.

Hi, just found this forum and thought i would add some info. i was born and brought up on parkwood, and cannot remeber a wood view. the streets from the top of leylands lane were, alpha, beta, blossom, thorne, wharhe, thames, tyne and grace st. the other side was, quarry, tyne, carilse, haymes, napier, feather, and bellevue terrace.then there was, pitt st the big yard harcort st, barret st, and st pauls road. phew !! that took some doing !! there was a largish house, thet is still there, at the top of quarry street and it was all flats. that overlooked the woods, could that be it ?

Thank you all - I suspect PArkwood Girl is probably correct. My family did not have enough money to live in a large house....so this fits the bill.........will keep on digging......
Thanks again

When I was young the 'big' house facing the wood was working men's club on the ground floor and living accommodation upstairs. Later at the start of the war the club closed and the property was turned into two flats. It is quite possible it was called 'Woodview' as a young girl I didn't take much notice of house names but I remember being sent to the club on a Sunday lunchtime to tell my grandad his dinner was ready.
