I have a pocket watch belonging to my Great Grandfather Robert Greenwood of Crosshills. It was made by Geo Feather of Keighley. I believe the Hallmark is the early 1900's. I seem to remember that when I lived in the area up to the early 60s there was a jewellers shop of that name Keighley. I also think that someone of that name was connected with Keighley Little Theatre at that time.
Does anyone have any information about the firm? Internet searches have so far not produced any information.
Thanks
Barrie Whiteley

Hello Barrie There was a jewellers on High Street in Keighley, around where Hargreaves Sadlers & shoe shop is now (8 High Street) I seem to remember it being called Feathers. The watch would have been supplied by them, unlikely to have been made there.

Hello Barrie, The watchmaker in High Street went under the name of MILLS. George FEATHER was at 100 Cavendish Street, and I have heard that it was he who wound up the clock of the nearby Mechanics Institute. You can find George FEATHER and his family in Enumeration District 36, sheet 68 of the 1911 Census.

Thanks for that - at least it proves my memory has not completely gone Any idea when they closed down? I think that the watch was probably bought around 1910/11 - I'll check the census. Any further information gratefully received Barrie

May have been misleading re George FEATHER's 1911 Census reference. The actual schedule or sheet number is 34. The '68' is the number to 'go' to on ancestry.co.uk
