Written by debra snowdon on Jul. 17, 2007 hi. just found your site and it's brilliant. i'm researching my ancestors of keighley and was wondering if anyone could help. my 4xgrt grandfather tubal cain ackroyd was born in haworth on 11 july 1799 and died in the union workhouse in keighley. he married charlotte holmes. i've been trying to find tubals parents names and if he had any brothers and sisters. i believe his father was called thomas and mother was betty. if this is the case i would be grateful if anyone has any information they could let me know and it would be great to find out his mothers maiden name.

Have a look at www.familysearch.org and batch number M018513 you'll see it lists the marriage of Thomas Ackroyd to Elizabeth (Betty) Settle 24 April 1798 in Haworth and the site also lists the births of their sons JUBAL-Cain Ackroyd in 1799 and Solomon in 1801 Hope this helps

Hi Debra I have some details of Tubal Cain Ackroyd - Buried 18th March 1878 aged 79 - D.O.B. believed to be 11th July 1799 - His resting place is Utley Cemetery - Conscrated Section Register nbr 3858 - Occupation Listed as Joiner - Section D grave nbr 391 - There is no headstone on this grave. Regretably he died in Keighley Union Workhouse, Oakworth Road Keighley (website - Workhouse.org) & was buried from there in a public grave. Some records may still exist for the Workhouse in Keighley Library. No info as to where the names are from - I just remembered I had that info as I am transcribing the records of Utley Cemetery and the name was so unusual. I have further records which may help - depending on whether I have it transcribed. Malcolm Reeves National Burial Index Coordinator Keighley & District Family History Society

Hey Malcolm,
How did you come about transcribing all the records for Utley Cemetery? Are you logging them electronically?
That is something I would love to do and was thinking about contacting Bradford Council to see if I could do some volunteer transcribing but after reading your post I'm now wondering if it is something which you could help me get involved with?

Hi - Gemma - I am arranging the transcription of the Burial Records for a number of public cemeteries in the Keighley area for the Family History Society and if you go to the new Family History website www.kdfhs.org and go to 'Projects' - you can email me direct (as anyone else who wishes to help) - all you need is an email address and Microftsoft works or excell spreadsheet. It doesn't matter if you are in Australia or in South America. It can be done over the internet. All the records will be made available in various formats and via the internet. They are currently collated into a database of over 350,000 people and linked to 11,000 properties in Keighley & elsewhere So - anyone interested - this is also available to Local History members also. I forgot to mention that the memorial stones are also being photographed and linked to the database.
