Thanks Jan Well we know that his parents were Jane and William Walker Briggs, so I am sure that some of our talented people on here have the records to trace back one further. Cheers.

I don't know who is grandparents were, but if we draw a blank, I do have somewhere his postal address, as I exchanged letters with him about 3 years ago in connection with KBGS website. He was a school friend of my fathers (now 90, so I think Asa was a year younger) at Parkwood, they used to swap stamps. So if no one answers the question you could always write to him !

Jan is it the same Asa that you are looking for as I notice the cup was given in 1902 and the Asa above wasn't born until 1921.

As I said earlier 'Lord' Asa Briggs one time Prof. of Modern History at Oxford, was born in 1921, a year after my father. He lives in Lewes, Sussex. Since my earlier post I found his letter to me dated 23/12/2005 (further back than I thought). He had just celebrated his Golden Wedding, and was (at 84), with his wife, about to embark upon a trip to South America !

Im sure members would like to know that Lord 'Asa' Briggs celebrates his 90th birthday today. A friend of my fathers(also 90) at Parkwood Juniors (They swapped stamps), he is possibly Keighleys most distinguished academician. He lives in Lewes Sussex Happy Birthday Asa.

I am currently tracing back my family tree and have found a Silver cup with the inscription:
Coronation Year 1911 With Mr & Mrs ASA BRIGGS Best Wsihes Clayton, May 26th 1911
Though the last number is faded. Does anyone have anymore information, or are these cups part of a collection?

I also have this cup. Have you been able to locate any information about it? Mine was in my grandmother's home in North Caroline, USA.
Thanks so much

Lord Asa was born 1921 (see earlier post). His father was William Briggs, who with his wife, had a greengrocers in Bradford Rd (though part of it was also a philately shop). Odd that you have cups from 1911 marked Mr.and Mrs Asa Briggs
Just for the record, as its not been mentioned here. Asa passed away a few months ago in Lewes, Sussex.
