Hi Vale, according to the census returns there were two adjoining cottages called Cress cottage and then Cress Villa, but they were on opposite side of road just as it goes round the bend opposite were the doctors is now. I think Fred was there 1945 according to telephone books.

I thought the cottage was on the left going down and Villa on the right. Both past Moss Carr Rd going down, Villa was just above Knowl House. See if you can get old of an old map, sometimes the walk order of census is not as we would expect it. I might be wrong.

I have the 1901 census and 1911 John Lister born keighley 1835 lived in it. 1911 census says 6 rooms so yes it could be that.
Thankyou Maryb
P.S didn't manage to do the link to the map.

The Druids Arms was called Crest Villa and not Cress Villa, I have the address on my Grandmother's marriage certificate in 1936 of who told me that is where she worked before the house became the Druids. (That is unless there is a spelling error on the certificate, of which happens from time to time) This is also backed up on the website www.valendale.myby.co.uk who states that Crest Villa was turned into the Druids. A great little sight to browse through. Hope I have been helpful.

Correct Susan - The Druids was Crest Villa and the architect was Fred Day. He had a daughter Barbara who was about three years younger than me. I played in Crest Villa many times, and I also attended the opening of the Druids. We left Kly., not long after it opened and had an unforgettable farewell party there.........
