Hi John, welcome to the board. It's a good place for expats. I also live in Auckland, in Mairangi Bay. I used to see Maurice Tillotson occasionally in Wellington when he first came out here probably in the late 70s/early 80s. He was a good footballer from Silsden, went on to play for NZ. I had been warned to look out for him and although I hadn't met him before, I went along to watch him play at the Basin and when he came close I called out "Come on Silsden". Poor Maurice, he didn't have a clue who it was! lol. Is he related to Trevor? Not many Tillotsons around here. Cheers.

I have just discovered this forum and am finding it fascinating reading about the "dark ages" aka my youth in Keighley.I went to the Central Youth Club in the late 50s,but to be one of the in crowd you had to refer to it as the club! I seem to remember that Derek (Connie) Constantine was a leader when I was there. He lived just around the corner from us in one of the Manvilles.I have very happy memories of the club as I learned to jive there, something I still enjoy when the occasion arises. I also remember going to The Girl's Club at Lund Park Methodist Church when I was younger. It was run by Sister Lily who was a lovely kind person.Other attendees were Janet Pickles and Ruth Bastow, but other names escape me.

Great stuff - I frequented the CYC and The Crotona. I actually played a single gig with The Secrets, at the RAOB Club, up West Lane I think it was, but I was so bad I was replaced immediately. Trevor Tillotson definitely played that gig but I can't remember the rest of the group, hope he remembers me. I can honestly say my playing has improved 100 fold over the years and I now pay some pretty fancy fingerstyle. I also played for the CYC rugby team along with Tony Woodwiss, Peter & Tommy Copperweight, Mike O'Neil, Dave Taylor, Jim Harrison. My sister Rita was a member too and some of her friends were Val Wilkinson, June Marston, Jean Greenwood, Anne Marron. I agree, they were great days and these 'net sites are reviving many wonderful memories, keep it all coming. Yes, Connie was a real character, he had a gorgeous sister too, Sylvia I think.

Well, at long last I have been able to register and log-on'to this forum and read all the wonderful post about the CYC. It was my favorite place to go to on a Friday night, and afterwards if we had any money we went to the Wimpey Bar at the end of the next street, oh I can still smell those lovely onions it was nectar. And if we did have a Wimpey it meant that we had to walk home and it was a long walk when your feet were killing you from dancing all night. And yes Trevor you had further to walk than I did, I waved goodby to you three at the corner of Oakworth Road & Victoria Road and Rita you and Chuck carried on up to Broomhill!!!! Well, I think that Chuck lived at Fell Lane if I remember rightly. Trevor can you guess who I am?

davefnd mentioned a Maureen who used to be a 'doorperson' at the CYC, I think we used to call her Ma - a person of some dimension who didn't put up with any nonsense! Also remember that at the Crotona the theme from Exodus was played to signal the end of the evening, an idea ahead of its time to calm people down before leaving the premises.
My sister Rita has failed to recognise you geordielass - she reckons we didn't know anyone down Victoria Road as that was posh! Chuck lived on Carlby Grove (now Street). I give in - please reveal your identities - elfremar and geordielass, I'm losing sleep!!

Ha Ha, well, I didnt live down Victoria Road I lived off Victoria road, on one of the Avenue's, and we were not posh! I cannot believe that you or your Rita can not guess who we are!!!
Another 2 clues? you and I have chatted before on FriendsReunited a few years back, and both elfremar and I worked at Peter Blacks. Your Mum may reconise who elfremar is as they did work together and I worked in a different department. Also, I was great friends with Rita Cannon. Now there is a big clue.

Can I ask the people who are posting the pictures if we could please arrange to have some copies for the Keighley Digital Archive? We have been asked to do a display for Central Hall and it would be great if we could use pictures and information about the Youth Club as it was a major part of the history of the hall. If anyone has pictures that we could use, we'd really appreciate it. If you haven't got any youth club pictures, but have pictures of yourselves from around the time you were going to the youth club, then those would be most welcome too. Any anecdotes would be fantastic as well. Cheers, Andy.

The Carol Greenwood I dated for a while went to KGGS, but she actually lived in Bingley. And she did go to Lund Park Youth Club for a good while. Its just could be her on the photo, but its now how I remember her. !

And the girl with no name in the photo I think it could be Pamela Stubbs? I think we all went to Butlins at Skegness that year.

Why does the large image keep repeating? As an administrator can you fix this Andy?
And, fsharpminor, you definitely have the wrong CG.
