I'm interested in reading about these areas pre 1820s. There are so many books (which is wonderful!) on the area. Can anyone recommend one or two books that would give me an idea of how my ancestors lived? I'm in Australia, so I don't have easy access to libraries where I can borrow or 'try before I buy'. Searching online I see there are a few pictorial books (I think) by Steven Wood, then there are some other books that are smaller scale and I guess more difficult to buy.
Thanks,
Kirstin

Hi, I don't have any books to recommend, but if you go to my "Bancroft's from Yorkshire" blog and type " Horkinstone" in the search box, there is a good photo of the old chapel....long since gone. Jar

Jar, your blog is brilliant. You're obviously very passionate about your family history.
